Stephanie Rousseau began baking with an Easy Bake oven when she was 5 years old. Her love for baking and cooking grew over the years. Over 45 years ago she began assisting her grandmother, Mrs. Scottie Dee Carter Green, with baking and cooking holiday dinners. Mrs. Scottie Green was an exceptional cook and baker. Everyone loved coming to her house for a home cooked meal. They enjoyed eating her delicious dishes and desserts. Her food and desserts were loved by many and formed great memories to cherish for a lifetime.
As a tribute to the legacy of Grandma Scottie Dee Carter Green, Stephanie named her business in honor and memory of her grandmother who is now in heaven. Stephanie believes when you serve someone food or desserts from scratch, you are serving them love and touching their soul. Many have expressed, eating her cakes have reminded them of a loved one who is no longer here, or memories of family gatherings around the table. That is what Dee-Licious Pound Cakes is all about.
What is a Pound Cake
If someone asked you how much the average pound cake weighs, would you say a pound? If so, you have been understandably tricked by the name of the cake. The name “pound cake” came from a hint at the original ingredient list in the early 1700’s. The recipes contained one pound of every one of its ingredients: sugar, flour, butter, and eggs. At that time, recipes were largely passed along orally because the average person was unable to read or write and word of mouth made it simple to memorize the recipe. I am sure you can imagine that a cake with four pounds of ingredients makes for a very hefty cake. The four-pound cake fed many in the household for days.
Today, the pound cake has evolved to many variations of the original recipe. Most recipes do not actually call for a pound each of the ingredients: eggs, flour, sugar, and butter. Of course, the pound cakes today do not weigh 4 pounds. With the evolution of the recipe of the pound cake, we have created a Dee-Licious Pound Cake in the flavors of sour cream, chocolate, and cream cheese. Our cakes do not last for many days in our home. It is always a favorite dessert choice that is gone in 48 hours or less!
